Medical Programs

Your history, ready for the next appointment

For each of eight conditions Sam has a program: its own diary, a monthly questionnaire and its own doctor report as a PDF to take to your appointment. Lifestyle programs for sleep, stress, movement and workout come on top.

Condition guides

These conditions do not have a program of their own. Sam's general tracking still applies, and each has a guide covering which signals are worth following and what to bring to an appointment.

Lifestyle Programs

Three lifestyle programs (Movement, Sleep, Stress), each with a goal you set, daily tracking and a progress view, and a validated self-check behind each: IPAQ, the MOS Sleep Scale and K10. The workout program reads your recovery data instead and has its own page.

Questions about the programs

Which conditions have a medical program?+

Eight: high blood pressure, migraine, epilepsy, panic disorder, asthma, hay fever, reflux (GERD) and gout. Each brings its own diary, the Apple Health values that fit the condition and a monthly questionnaire (medically validated where one exists). Your medication list with reminders is separate from the programs: high blood pressure, epilepsy, asthma, hay fever, reflux and gout read from it, and migraine links the as-needed medication from its attack diary. Other conditions, such as AFib and type 2 diabetes, have guides rather than programs.

How many programs can I run at once?+

On the free tier, two lifestyle programs and one medical program at a time, and you choose which medical program. Sam Pro runs all of them at once, which matters because these conditions frequently occur together. Each program has its own diary and its own doctor report, and there is no combined one.

Which questionnaires does Sam use, and which are validated?+

Each medical program asks a monthly questionnaire and charts the score over time. Medically validated instruments are used where one exists: MEDAS-14 for high blood pressure, MIDAS for migraine, NDDI-E for epilepsy, OASIS for panic disorder, GERD-HRQL for reflux. The asthma, hay fever and gout check-ins are Sam's own, following GINA areas, an ARIA-style scale and the PROMIS framework.

Does Sam diagnose or treat any of these conditions?+

No. Sam records what you log and what Apple Health already collects, and presents it as trends against your own baseline. It does not diagnose and does not make treatment or medication recommendations. The point is to arrive at your appointment with better information.

What is a program in Sam?+

A program is the area in Sam for one condition or topic, with its own diary, its own monthly questionnaire and its own doctor report as a PDF. It documents what you record. Medical programs exist for eight conditions and start once you confirm that a doctor has diagnosed the condition. There are also four lifestyle programs: sleep, stress, movement and workout.

Sam is a wellness companion, not a medical device and not a medical record system. It does not diagnose conditions or replace your doctor's care. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional for medical decisions.
