Living with ME/CFS

Every activity costs energy. Evaluating it shouldn't cost you any.

Pacing is considered one of the most important day-to-day strategies for ME/CFS. Sam works with what your wearable already measures - resting heart rate, HRV, and sleep - compared against your personal baseline, prepared fully automatically.

Your data

The metrics that often come up in everyday life with ME/CFS.

Your wearable already captures them. Sam reads them from Apple Health and shows you how they shift against your personal baseline.

How Sam accompanies you day to day with ME/CFS

Sam reads the data your wearable already writes to Apple Health and compares it to your personal baseline - understandable, not a wall of numbers.

1

Backing pacing with data

Current guidelines for ME/CFS recommend avoiding overexertion and staying within your own energy limits. Resting heart rate and HRV compared to your personal baseline can serve as an additional point of reference.

2

Questions instead of dashboards

On severe days, even a chart is too much. Just ask Sam: "What's changed this week?" - and get an answer in plain sentences instead of graphs.

3

Documentation without a diary

The monthly report captures an objective picture of your weeks - useful for doctor's appointments, applications, or simply your own memory, without having to log anything day to day.

Sam is a wellness companion, not a medical device. The app does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any illness and does not replace medical advice. Consult a qualified healthcare professional for medical decisions.

Understand, don't guess.

Sam translates your numbers into clear answers and a report you can take with you.

Ask Sam about your data

Instead of interpreting charts, you ask questions - Sam answers from your own numbers. For example:

How does my week compare to my baseline?
Resting heart rate and HRV were off your baseline for 3 days in a row - more than in your typical weeks.
Show me the trend since March.

A report for your next doctor's appointment

The monthly PDF report sums up your weeks objectively - for appointments, applications, or simply your own record.

Frequently Asked Questions

I barely have any energy - how much effort does Sam take?+

Almost none. Sam reads your Apple Health data automatically and asks you one short question a week. There's nothing to log and nothing to maintain.

Does Sam replace a symptom diary or medical care?+

No. Sam doesn't track symptoms and doesn't make diagnoses. It only reads resting heart rate, HRV, and sleep trends from Apple Health and shows them compared to your personal baseline - your symptoms, and how you interpret them, remain between you and your care team.

Does HRV monitoring actually help with pacing?+

The research on this is still ongoing. Many people with ME/CFS find resting heart rate and HRV trends a helpful additional point of reference, but they aren't a proven tool for controlling activity. Sam shows you the data transparently - how much weight you give it is up to you.

Can an Apple Watch detect or diagnose ME/CFS?+

No. An Apple Watch can't detect or diagnose ME/CFS - that requires a structured medical evaluation against clinical criteria, such as the Canadian Consensus Criteria. Sam only reads resting heart rate, HRV, and sleep trends from Apple Health and shows them compared to your own baseline - as a starting point for conversation, not a diagnosis.

Can an app predict when I'll crash?+

No - no app can reliably predict the onset of post-exertional malaise (PEM), often called a 'crash,' and that includes Sam. Sam shows you resting heart rate and HRV trends compared to your baseline, but whether and when exertion leads to a crash remains something only you can observe from your own experience.
