Lifestyle age calculator

Score four self-reportable habits - smoking, weight, activity, and alcohol - on the 0-8 scale from a 2020 JAMA Internal Medicine study of 116,043 adults, then see Sam's own age-equivalent translation of that score. This isn't a biological age test: no questionnaire replaces a blood or DNA-based one for that.

Frequently asked questions

Does this measure my real biological age?+

No. A true biological age needs a blood or DNA-based test (like an epigenetic clock) - no questionnaire can replace that. This tool scores four lifestyle habits from a large, peer-reviewed study and translates the result into an age-equivalent number for comparison, nothing more.

What is this score based on?+

A 2020 study in JAMA Internal Medicine that followed 116,043 adults across 12 European cohorts. It scores four fully self-reportable habits - smoking, BMI, leisure-time activity, and alcohol intake - as 0, 1, or 2 points each (poor, intermediate, optimal), for a total out of 8.

Why does zero alcohol score lower than moderate drinking?+

That's the study's own finding, not a mistake here: it scored non-drinkers as intermediate (1 point) and moderate drinkers - within the ranges shown above - as optimal (2 points). Heavy drinking still scores worst (0 points). We reproduce this exactly as published rather than adjusting it.

Can Sam or a wearable change my biological age?+

No consumer product, including Sam, can measure or change your biological age. Sam tracks your own activity, sleep, and heart-rate trends over time, which is a different thing from an age estimate - it shows what's happening now, not a diagnosis or a guaranteed outcome.

Is this medical advice?+

No. This is a self-assessment tool for general information, not a diagnosis or medical advice. Talk to a doctor about your smoking, weight, activity, or alcohol habits, especially if any of your scores fall in the poor band.

Sam doesn't calculate your biological age either

Sam doesn't calculate your biological age either - no consumer product can. What it does is show your own activity, sleep, and heart-rate trends day to day, so the habits behind a score like this become visible over time, not just a one-off number.
